How to post a video longer than 30 seconds on WhatsApp Status

WhatsApp Status does not split a long video for you — it trims it, keeps the opening seconds and drops the rest without asking. To post the whole thing, cut it into parts that each fit under the limit your app actually applies and post them in sequence, starting with part 1.
That limit is officially 90 seconds, raised from 30 to 60 to 90 with the rollout starting around April 2025 — but plenty of people still see 30 seconds, or an odd cap like 47, depending on version and region. Parts are what works whatever number you turn out to have.

What WhatsApp actually does with a long video
The Status composer caps a video entry, and when your clip runs past the cap it keeps the first N seconds and discards the remainder. WhatsApp’s own help pages describe it plainly: upload a longer video and only the opening stretch is shared to Status. There is no prompt, no second entry, and nothing on your phone tells you the ending is gone — the first person to say so is usually a viewer.
The cap itself is not one number any more. WhatsApp raised it twice — 30 seconds, then 60 in 2024, then 90 from around April 2025 — and community reports through 2025 describe people on 30, 47 and 90 seconds in the same week on the same app. One poster ties the shorter cap to files over 10 MB. So a page telling you the WhatsApp Status limit is 30 seconds is repeating a number that stopped being the whole truth two years ago, and a page telling you it is 90 is describing a rollout that has not reached everyone.

How the split works
- Trim first, then split — The filmstrip trimmer cuts the clip before anything is divided, so a part is never spent on the ten seconds of pocket footage at the start.
- Even parts, not leftovers — A 1:01 clip at a 30-second part length becomes three parts of 20.3 seconds, not 30 + 30 + a one-second stub. The arithmetic runs on whole timecode ticks, so the parts add back up to the clip exactly.
- Numbered in the order they were cut — The export list shows part 1, part 2, part 3 and so on. Post them top to bottom and viewers see the video the way you filmed it.
- One framing decision for the whole video — The 9:16 crop window is resolved once, from the source, and every part shares it. Parts cannot drift or jump between each other because they were never framed separately.
- One export, however many parts — A two-minute video is four parts of one export, not four exports. The parts after the first cost nothing extra.
How long is a part?
Parts are sized to what your WhatsApp actually accepts, not to a number from an article. Each part is encoded to a 9:16 portrait frame at 1080 × 1920 with H.264 video and AAC audio, at roughly 6 Mbps — about 8 Mbps for high-frame-rate HD sources — with a keyframe every two seconds. - Post part 1 first — Status shows entries in the order you posted them. Work down the numbered list and the sequence takes care of itself.

Can I just post the 90-second version instead of splitting?

Does splitting make the video look worse?
