Most of the pages that rank for WhatsApp Status video settings sell desktop software: as of August 2026 HitPaw’s guide promotes a Windows and Mac video enhancer, and Wondershare’s promotes UniConverter for Windows and Mac. The clip you want to post is already on your phone, and VividStatus does the whole job there — no transfer out, no transfer back.

Two numbers on those pages worth a second look
HitPaw’s page advises keeping the compressed file at around 10 MB to ensure high quality. We have found no evidence for a file-size threshold below which WhatsApp leaves a Status video alone — the composer re-encodes what it is handed, and planning around a magic number invites disappointment.
Wondershare’s page states that Status tops out at 30 seconds and 16 MB. WhatsApp raised the per-entry limit in 2025 and it is officially 90 seconds now, though what a given phone accepts still varies by app version and region — plenty of people still see 30. Either way, check it against your own app rather than a number in an undated guide, and remember that anything over the cap is trimmed off rather than split.
What VividStatus prints instead is its own side of the exchange: the resolution, bitrate and codec it writes for each delivery route. Those are targets we encode to, not measurements of what your viewers receive — WhatsApp decides the final encode after upload, and no app on either side of this comparison changes that.
When a desktop tool is still the right answer
- The footage isn’t on your phone — Camera cards, drone files, screen recordings from a laptop — get them onto the phone first, or do the work where they already are.
- You are editing, not preparing — Multi-track edits, colour grading, titles. VividStatus prepares a finished clip for Status; it is not an editor.
- You need a format Status doesn’t take — Converting for archive, for another platform or for a codec outside the Status pipeline is a converter’s job, not this one.
Phone-versus-desktop questions
Does VividStatus need a computer at any point?
No. Import, framing, splitting, encoding and the hand-off into WhatsApp all happen on the iPhone.
Should I export at 1080p?
VividStatus encodes video at 1080×1920 and picks the bitrate from the route you are posting through, so it isn’t a guess you have to make. Our own device test on 31 July 2026 saw roughly 1080p survive a direct Status post — one device, one Wi-Fi network, HD auto-download in play, so treat it as a data point rather than a promise.
Is a phone encoder good enough?
The iPhone encodes video in hardware, which is what your camera already uses. The variable that decides how a Status looks is the file WhatsApp is handed, not which machine wrote it.
