Fix sideways video on WhatsApp Status

Updated 2026-08-15

A video that is upright in Photos but sideways at another checkpoint needs a controlled comparison, not an assumed metadata diagnosis. Inspect the untouched source, a prepared export played locally, the WhatsApp composer, and a disposable live post. Record the first place where orientation differs and keep the original file for each repeat.

A repeatable method

Confirm that the source itself plays from beginning to end in the intended orientation. If the source is already sideways, correct it with a supported editor before using VividStatus. If it changes only in the composer or later, note the app, iOS, and WhatsApp versions. A landscape video that is intentionally horizontal is a framing decision, not the same symptom as unintended rotation.

Make the decision before exporting

VividStatus can create a separate H.264/AAC MP4 as an alternate test input. This is a re-encode checkpoint, not a promised orientation repair. After processing, play the complete new file locally before saving it or opening the WhatsApp handoff. The original selected Photos or Files item remains untouched; a Camera capture is temporary unless you explicitly save a durable result.

Practical target

The test passes only for the checkpoint you inspected. If the alternate file is upright locally, inspect it again in the composer and after a disposable post. If it remains sideways or changes later, preserve both files and report the recorded versions and first failing boundary rather than repeating exports or promising that re-encoding fixes the cause.
