How to put a video on WhatsApp Status in one tap

Updated 2026-09-08

WhatsApp publishes an official Share-to-Status handoff for iOS apps: an app writes the media to a named pasteboard type and opens a WhatsApp link, and the Status composer opens with that media already loaded. VividStatus uses it, so getting a finished file into Status is one tap — no contact picker, no saving to Photos first, no hunting for the file again inside WhatsApp.

VividStatus is an iPhone app that prepares photos and videos for WhatsApp Status: it frames selected media on a 9:16 working canvas, can divide a long video into evenly sized parts under its current 90-second maximum, and lets you open each prepared item in WhatsApp for review — entirely on device, with no watermark, no ads and no account.

What the handoff is made of

What one tap does not change

The handoff is about opening the prepared file in WhatsApp, not promising a particular compression or delivery result. WhatsApp controls everything after it receives the file, so compare the local export with a live receiver-side result if quality is important.

It is also worth being clear about the documented routes. WhatsApp’s published Share-to-Status handoff opens a pre-loaded composer for your confirmation, while its documented whatsapp://send URL carries text. VividStatus therefore describes the composer handoff it implements rather than promising automatic publication.

Since August 2025, WhatsApp for iOS has also carried a "My Status" target in the iOS share sheet. That works too, and it drops into the same Status editor — the one-tap route simply removes the sheet from the middle.

Delivery questions

Does VividStatus post to my Status by itself?

No. VividStatus opens the Status composer with your media loaded; you confirm and post inside WhatsApp. VividStatus never publishes a Status on your behalf.

Do I have to save to Photos first?

No. The handoff passes the prepared media to WhatsApp directly. Saving to your Photos library is a separate choice you can make if you want a copy.

Does the one-tap route improve the quality of my Status?

No, and we will not claim it does. It removes steps between your file and the composer. The local preparation happens earlier, when the file is framed and encoded.

What happens with a video that was split into parts?

Each checklist row is handed over separately. Open part 1, review and confirm it in WhatsApp, return to VividStatus, then repeat for the next part. Posting in checklist order is your responsibility.

Does VividStatus read my chats or contacts?

No. The handoff is one-way: media out to the Status composer. VividStatus has no access to your conversations, contacts or phone number.
