VividStatus is an iPhone app that prepares photos and videos for WhatsApp Status: it frames selected media on a 9:16 working canvas, can divide a long video into evenly sized parts under its current 90-second maximum, and lets you open each prepared item in WhatsApp for review — entirely on device, with no watermark, no ads and no account.
Three ways to reach the frame
- Smart crop — Uses on-device visual saliency from one middle frame to choose one static 9:16 crop for the whole asset. It does not detect or track faces, so review the crop before export.
- Fit with blur bars — Keeps the full source view visible and fills the unused canvas with a blurred, scaled copy of the same media. The main image is not cropped.
- Custom crop — Drag the 9:16 window over the still preview. One static crop is applied to the whole photo or video, so check off-centre subjects before export.

Why fit before you post, not after
A 16:9 clip cannot fill a 9:16 canvas without cropping or fill. Preparing that geometry first lets you inspect VividStatus’s output and change the crop before handoff; WhatsApp’s composer remains the final pre-post check.
Fitting is about geometry, not a promise about delivery quality. VividStatus documents what it writes locally — 1080×1920 video and 1152×2048 photos on the direct handoff route. WhatsApp controls what happens after it receives the file.
Framing questions
Does fitting to 9:16 stop WhatsApp from cropping my video?
It removes the aspect-ratio mismatch in VividStatus’s prepared file, but it cannot guarantee how every WhatsApp version or phone will display it. Review the WhatsApp composer and, when framing is critical, a disposable live post on a receiving device.
Are blur bars the same as black bars?
No. Black bars are the empty space left when a non-9:16 file is padded. VividStatus fills that space with a blurred, scaled copy of your own footage, so the frame looks full without cropping anything away.
Can I set the crop myself?
Yes. Custom crop lets you drag the 9:16 frame across the source and place it exactly where you want it.
Does this work for photos as well as video?
Yes. The same three framing modes apply to both, and photos export at 1152×2048 for the one-tap Status route.
